Biography
Jarod Bonine is a shareholder at the firm and an experienced trial lawyer. His practice focuses on the areas of complex commercial, personal injury, and employment disputes.
Jarod also handles matters involving business torts, breach of contract, real estate, oil and gas, breach of fiduciary duty, products liability, and civil appeals. He holds a masters in accounting and has passed his CPA exam, invaluable background for handling the firm’s complex financial disputes. Jarod has handled all aspects of litigation in various state and federal courts as well as numerous arbitration forums. He also has extensive experience representing employers responding to charges of discrimination before federal and state agencies as well as advising management with respect to all aspects of employment law and issues related to corporate governance.
Prior to joining the firm, Jarod practiced litigation in Houston at a large national firm and a litigation boutique. He previously served as a law clerk for the Honorable Nancy F. Atlas, United States District Court, Southern District of Texas.
Representative Engagements
- Lead counsel for large offshore oil and gas producer in post-merger working capital adjustment arbitration that resulted in $17 million recovery for client.
- Secured defense verdict in trial for healthcare provider in a disability and age discrimination lawsuit brough by former employee.
- Prevailed on behalf of energy generation client in a baseball arbitration concerning a complex fuel contract pricing dispute.
- Trial counsel securing take nothing judgment for client, a large pipeline company, in a lawsuit brought by plaintiff that suffered a catastrophic traumatic brain injury from an auto-pedestrian accident.
- Tried to verdict case of first impression related to forfeiture for competition clause for large oil and gas producer. Secured summary judgment in favor of client on threshold issue of enforceability of such forfeiture clauses with broad application to hundreds of client’s former employees and limited partners.
- Trial and appellate counsel for church in lawsuit it brought against Southern Methodist University concerning its attempted separation from The United Methodist Church.
- Secured summary judgment for client, a global commercial real estate services firm, in California state court for disability and age discrimination and retaliation lawsuit brought by client’s former employee.
- Prevailed on summary judgment for client, a national internet broadband provider, resulting in dismissal of all claims brought by client’s former customer for breach of contract, fraud, DTPA, anti-trust, and various debt collection statutes with alleged damages exceeding $10 million.
- Secured numerous summary judgments in state and federal courts for client, a large Houston area hospital system, in employment discrimination lawsuits brought by former employees.
- Secured multiple summary judgments in federal courts for client, international trucking and freight shipper, in employment discrimination lawsuits.
